Two, successful seasons in the bag for Lena Waithe’s #TwentiesonBET. The GLAAD media award for outstanding comedy nominated series has been pulling in viewers since season one; following the lives of a queer Black woman and her two Black female friends. We grow along with these three characters as navigate through life on their own journeys.
Ahead of the season finale for the second season, BET hosted TwentiesCon and celebrated with an Instagram Q&A joined by cast members and hosted by “Twenties After-Show With B. Scott’s” B.Scott. The season is barely over and the question top of mind for all viewers… “Will there be a third season?”
With no formal announcement today regarding the contract renewal, B.Scott hinted that Lena does plan on telling the stories of these characters as long as she can. We’re satisfied… we will hold tight (edge of our seats tight) and hang on to that a glimpse of hope of what’s to come.
The common denominator for both cast and viewers was growth. With any show, as viewers, we love to see the growth of the characters we start to love and begin to feel a connection with; it’s only natural that the actors and actresses would feel the same way. During the Q&A, each of the actors were asked what they hope their character would develop into, and each had different responses to that question. There was one common quality they each hoped for in their characters; however, and that was to see personal growth within themselves, being more comfortable with who they are, and to explore being in relationships. They ALL agreed, and Gabrielle Graham (“Nia”) was HEAVY on the “Boo’ed up” part.
Already in a mood, because a “good” season finale is guaranteed to leave us hanging, and we expect this; however, Jevon McFerrin and Jojo Gibbs teased further. McFerrin, stating there will be some unfinished business and Gibbs saying “get ready for the funny, emotional moments,” we can almost bet a cliffhanger is near. So, basically, get ready for a rollercoaster of emotions.
Let us know what you thought of the season finale… was it what you expected or did it take a whole different direction? Are you demanding a third season… Lena knows she can’t leave the viewers hanging!? Give us your thoughts and let us know what direction you want the series to go next season!
