“If you don’t know me, shame on you,” says Julissa Bermudez, jokingly opening the premiere of her new show It’s Me, Julissa on CLEO TV! Airing Friday, October 15 at 10 p.m. EST, It’s Me, Julissa is a lifestyle show on CLEO TV, where Julissa exposes beauty, home, style tips and more.
CLEO TV says:
It’s Me, Julissa! reintroduces fans to entertainment sweetheart Julissa Bermudez after years in the industry’s background hosting various shows and helping others tell their stories. Julissa’s series will focus on her New York upbringing, sharing nostalgic Dominican recipes, discussing some of her life’s faux-pas, and the launch of her new body care brand República Skin. Bermudez’s show will air on Friday, October 15 at 10 p.m. EST and is the first original series brought to CLEO TV by Kin x TV One Licensing Partnership along with Tia Mowry’s Quick Fix airing Fridays on CLEO TV.CLEO TV
Although no stranger to the television screen, our Santo Domingo-born, New York-raised Dominican sister says, “It still hasn’t sunk in that the show is actually happening” mentioning being happy to be a part of the family, but noting that her comfort zone “much rather ask the questions that be asked.” Still in disbelief that she signed up for the series, Bermudez attributes her courage to undertake this latest venture to her fans.
It was Bermudez’ following that “direct message and ask her questions all the time” whom pushed her towards this path. She says, they “always said they wanted to see more.” She was certain; however, that if she was to “turn the cameras/flip the script” and have the lens (now) on her, what she would share would be “for a reason, to make my community proud, myself proud and share things that aren’t out there as much.” CLEO TV celebrates diversity, and encourages programming that transcends race and brings cultures together. “What better platform… I enjoy their programming, especially CLEO TV,” says Bermudez. She added, “If I am going to do, it I’m going to feel safe, authentic and genuine in sharing.”
As a familiar face on our television screens for the last two decades, Bermudez notes that she has acquired various titles over the years. Being in the business this long has afforded her the opportunity to pick up “nuggets” (as she calls them) along the way. Her latest titles of influencer and entrepreneur allow her to explore the growth along with the challenges. She says, “people don’t get to see that with social media; with the instant, polished and finished look, you don’t get to really see the journey any more.” She continues, “Being a woman of color, and Latina, to share that journey” is what makes her happy, especially to do so “on the TV One networks.”
During a press conference for the upcoming show, Bermudez dropped an exclusive look into an exclusive, special project she’s working on; her skincare brand, a sugar-body polish with sugar cane as the main ingredient, República!
Obsessed with exfoliating for as long as she can remember, Bermudez wondered why her skin would be “supple, dewy, and hydrated” in the Caribbean, but “dry, flaky and ashy” in New York. Bermudez set out to bring crack the code to Caribbean skin “in her own home.” She asked herself, “what are ingredients I can take from the Caribbean and incorporate in to my first, seasonal product?” When consumers think of República, Bermudez wants “all encompassing” to resonate. She says, “skincare is body care as well.”
The two-and-a-half year journey of product development will be the highlight of the upcoming show. Bermudez says, “Murphy’s law was in full effect. Anything that could go wrong went wrong… I hope you enjoy it, feel transported to the Caribbean and get that polished skin while you’re at it.”
Integrating culture into everything Julissa does is by no means planned; she simply IS culture.
