Dr. Patterson: Becoming Her, The Coronation

Updated: 5 hours ago

Being a woman requires immense strength and resilience but being a Black woman is a thousand times tougher. We are expected to be everything to everyone, constantly proving that we are enough just as we are. We fight against negative stereotypes, carry the weight of unspoken fears, push through pain, and live as if we must be superwoman 24/7. As Alicia Keys once sang, “even when I’m a mess, I still put a vest with an S on my chest.” That lyric captures the reality of what society demands from Black women, but in truth, this endless performance of strength can be detrimental to our mental health. Because at the end of the day, we are human. We deserve the space to feel, to rest, and to heal without the burden of judgment.

Dr. Patterson, healthcare leader and founder of Rejuvenére, knows this reality intimately. Raised in Jamaica by her grandmother, she learned early on the value of service and compassion, lessons that have shaped her decades of work supporting women in both health and faith. Through her practice, she has heard countless stories of trauma, survival, and resilience. Those experiences inspired her latest book, Becoming Her: The Coronation.

“I wanted to create a safe space for my clients and for women everywhere,” Dr. Patterson shares. “A place to remind them that they are not their traumas, and not defined by who the world says they should be.”

Women for the Culture had the privilege of sitting down with Dr. Patterson to explore why this book is essential for today’s women, touching on themes of healing, empowerment, stepping into your power, and addressing health disparities that impact women of color. Becoming Her: The Coronation is a must-read for every woman ready to reclaim her strength without sacrificing her humanity. Available now on Amazon

Q&A

Dr. Patterson, Let’s start with your origin story, how did your upbringing

in rural Jamaica shape your journey to becoming a healthcare leader and

founder of Rejuvenére?

My journey began in Portland, Jamaica, where I was raised by my

grandmother. From her, I learned the importance of helping others, the

value of hard work, and the sustaining power of faith and resilience.

Those humble beginnings gave me a deep compassion for people

and ultimately inspired me to found Rejuvenére Health Medspa, not

just to help clients lose weight or look better, but to empower them to

live healthier, fuller lives. My upbringing shaped me into a woman who

believes that true health is more than medicine, it’s faith, love, and

the confidence to rise above life’s circumstances.

You wear many crowns: wife, mother, healthcare practitioner, and

now author. How do you stay grounded while balancing so many

callings?

Balancing the many crowns I wear is not always easy, but I stay

grounded by keeping God at the center of everything I do. My faith

reminds me that I don’t have to carry it all in my own strength. I also lean

on my family, who keep me anchored in love, and I practice what I teach

my clients self-care, healthy boundaries, and giving myself grace. Each

role I carry is part of my calling, and I’ve learned that when I align my

priorities with purpose, balance becomes less about perfection and more

about peace

“Becoming Her: The Coronation” is such a powerful title. What inspired

this gathering, and why is this the right moment for it?

Becoming Her: The Coronation was born out of the stories I hear every day while serving

my clients. Women often share their personal traumas, limiting beliefs, and daily

struggles, and it reminded me that we all carry stories of pain, and far too often, we

suffer in silence. I wanted to create a safe space for my clients and for women

everywhere, a place to remind them that they are not their traumas and not defined by who the world says they should be.

This gathering flows directly from the message of my book, Becoming Her. In writing it, I found the strength to share my own stories of rejection, heartbreak, and trauma not to relive the pain, but to reveal the power of healing and faith. The Coronation is my way of showing women that they are queens, worthy of walking with their heads held high, confident, self-assured, and unapologetically crowned for who they truly are. This is the right moment, because women everywhere are reclaiming their identity, their voice, and their power

This event honors women who’ve risen through heartbreak, trauma, and

imposter syndrome. Can you share what “becoming her” means to you

personally?

To me, becoming her means fully embracing the woman God created

me to be, whole, healed, and unapologetically confident. It’s about

rising from the ashes of heartbreak, trauma, abandonment and

rejection, and allowing those storms to refine me rather than define

me. Personally, it has been a journey of shedding the weight of

imposter syndrome and silencing the lies that said I wasn’t

enough. Becoming her is not about perfection, it’s about walking boldly

in purpose, standing firm in faith, and knowing that every scar tells a

story of survival and strength and resilience. BecomingHer is the daily

choice to show up confidently as the best versions of our selves,

rooted in God’s love.

How do you envision women feeling after they leave this

experience?

My prayer was that every woman would leave the

experience feeling seen, strengthened, and crowned with a new

sense of confidence. I wanted them to walk away lighter - knowing

they were not alone in their struggles, and that their scars were a

testament to their strength. The feedback I received was incredible - women said, ‘This was so needed. We should do this more often.’ Others shared how

reading Becoming Her and hearing the personal testimonies gave them

those ‘aha’ moments that reminded them they too were stronger than

they ever realized. My vision was for each woman to depart feeling

empowered to embrace her story, release what no longer served her,

and step boldly into the Queen she was always created to be.

As someone who bridges science and spirituality, how do you

define true healing, especially for women battling emotional

wounds?

For me, true healing goes beyond physical health, it’s the alignment

of mind, body, and spirit. As a healthcare practitioner, I understand the science of medicine, but I also know that no prescription can mend a

broken heart or restore a wounded soul. For women battling emotional

wounds, true healing begins when they give themselves permission to

feel, to release, and to invite God into the broken places. It’s the

courage to confront past traumas, the grace to forgive, and the faith to

believe that wholeness is possible. Healing is not just the absence of

pain; it is the presence of peace, joy, and self-worth. That’s when

transformation truly begins

You speak of reclaiming divine power. What are some practical

ways women can start stepping into that power today?

Reclaiming divine power begins with small, intentional steps. First,

women must speak life over themselves, using daily affirmations and

scripture to replace negative self-talk with truth. Second, they should

set healthy boundaries, because saying no to what drains you is

saying yes to your peace and purpose. Third, surround yourself with a

supportive community of faith-filled women who remind you of your

worth. And finally, spend time in prayer and reflection, because

connecting with God’s voice above the noise of the world is the

ultimate source of strength. When women begin practicing these

steps, they don’t just survive their circumstances—they rise above

them and walk boldly in their God-given authority

  • What led you to launch Rejuvenére, and how does it go beyond

    aesthetics to promote whole-person wellness?

The vision for Rejuvenére was born during the height of COVID-19. I saw firsthand that the people most at risk of dying from the virus were those with underlying conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease. What struck me was that so many of these illnesses are preventable if we address their root cause—obesity. That realization shifted something in me. I knew I had to do more than treat symptoms; I had to help my community take charge of their health. Rejuvenére was created not just as a med spa for aesthetics, but as a place where whole- person wellness is the focus. Yes, we help people look better, but more importantly, we help them feel stronger, live healthier, and reduce their risk for preventable diseases. Our mission is to empower clients to reclaim their health, body, mind, and spirit, so they can live longer, fuller, and more confident lives.

You’re passionate about addressing health disparities. What gaps do you

see in women’s healthcare, especially for Black women—and how is

your medspa answering that call?

One of the biggest gaps I see in women’s healthcare is access to truly holistic,

preventative care, care that looks beyond treating symptoms and addresses the whole woman: her physical, emotional, and even spiritual needs. For Black women especially, there are layers of disparities, from higher rates of maternal mortality to being overlooked or not taken seriously when we voice our health concerns. Too often, women are expected to carry the weight of their families and communities while neglecting their own wellness. At Rejuvenére, we are answering that call by creating a space where women feel seen, heard, and cared for. We focus on preventative health, helping women address obesity, high blood pressure, and diabetes before they lead to more serious outcomes. We also provide education, empowerment, and community support, so women know they are not

alone in their journey. My mission is to bridge the gap by offering compassionate, evidence-based care that prioritizes both wellness and confidence, because when women are healthy, families and communities are healthier too.

How do your services in weight loss, skin rejuvenation, and

chronic care empower women to feel confident and see

Our services in weight loss, skin rejuvenation, and chronic care are designed to go far beyond surface results, they empower women to feel confident from the inside out. When a woman loses weight, she doesn’t just see the number on the scale change; she experiences renewed energy, improved health, and the confidence to step fully into her purpose. With skin rejuvenation, we help women look in the mirror and love what they see again, which often reignites their sense of self-worth. And with chronic care, we walk alongside women in managing conditions like diabetes or hypertension so they feel supported, capable, and in control of their health.

The transformation is not just physical, it’s emotional, spiritual, and deeply personal. When women feel strong in their bodies, radiant in their appearance, and secure in their health, they show up differently in every aspect of life. That’s the true power of what we do at Rejuvenére: helping women see themselves as worthy, beautiful, and unstoppable

As a devoted Christian and a healthcare provider, how has your faith influenced the way you serve others?

My faith is the foundation of everything I do, and it deeply influences the way I serve others. As a healthcare provider, I see each client not just as a patient, but as a child of God deserving of compassion, dignity, and hope. My faith reminds me that healing isn’t just physical, it’s emotional and spiritual too. I often pray for wisdom before making decisions, and I rely on God’s guidance to see beyond symptoms to the whole person in front of me. Serving others, to me, is ministry. Whether I’m helping a client lose weight, supporting them through chronic illness, or simply listening to their struggles, I believe I’m fulfilling

God’s call to be His hands and feet. My goal is not just to improve health outcomes, but to speak life, encouragement, and faith into people so they leave not only healthier, but also uplifted and reminded of their worth.

  • What do you say to women of faith who may struggle with prioritizing

self-care or investing in their healing?

To the women of faith who struggle with prioritizing self-care, I remind them that taking care of yourself is not selfish, it’s stewardship. Our bodies, minds, and spirits are gifts from God, and He calls us to honor them. Too often, women pour into everyone else until they’re empty, believing that sacrifice means neglecting themselves. But the truth is, you cannot pour from an empty cup.

Investing in your healing is an act of obedience because it allows you to show up stronger for your family, your ministry, and your calling. Even Jesus rested and withdrew to pray, if He made time to renew His strength, how much more should we? Self-care is not vanity, it’s vitality, and when you prioritize your well-being, you’re saying yes to the abundant life God has promised

What do you hope “Becoming Her: The Coronation” sparks, not just

in the room, but in women’s lives after the event?

I hope Becoming Her: The Coronation sparks transformation that goes far

beyond the room. We are all a work in progress, but with daily

intentional actions, choosing faith over fear, courage over doubt, and

healing over hiding, we move closer to the woman God created us to

be. My prayer is that this experience ignites a fire in women to keep

becoming: to take one step at a time, one day at a time, with their

heads held high. Transformation doesn’t happen overnight, but when

women leave committed to showing up consistently for themselves,

they begin to rewrite their story, and that is where the true coronation

takes place.

How can people support your mission, attend the event, or connect

with Rejuvenére’s services?

People can support our mission in several meaningful ways. First, by prioritizing their own health, because when individuals make healthier choices, it leads to stronger families and healthier communities. Second, they can support by purchasing my book, Becoming Her, now available on Amazon, and sharing it with other women who need encouragement and healing. For those who want to experience the movement firsthand, they can attend our events like Becoming Her: The Coronation or Our Journey to Health Gala (held annually) or connect with Rejuvenére Health Medspa, where we provide services in weight loss, skin rejuvenation, IV therapy, and whole-person wellness. Every step of support, whether investing in your health, reading the book, or joining our community, helps us spread the message of healing, empowerment, and transformation to more lives.

And finally, what does “becoming her” mean to the girl still

questioning if she’s worthy of the crown?

To the girl still questioning if she’s worthy of the crown, becoming her means knowing that your worth is not determined by your past, your mistakes, or what others have said about you. You are already chosen, already loved, and already crowned by God. Becoming her is about peeling back the layers of fear, doubt, and insecurity to discover the queen that has been inside you all along.

It doesn’t require perfection, it requires courage. It’s taking one small step each day toward healing, faith, and self-love. The crown isn’t something you have to earn; it’s already yours. All you have to do is lift your head, claim it, and walk in the truth of who you were always created to be.
