Longevity, impact, and passion are just a few of the words that come to mind when I think about the cultural impact of a show likeTyler Perry’s Sistas. It’s a show that’s clearly walking in the footsteps of predecessors like Girlfriends and Living Single, but it’s also doing its own thing in a very real way.
Sistas shows us that beautiful, intelligent Black women can lead a show, carry a sitcom, and keep people coming back season after season. And it doesn’t stop there. The spin offs take it even further, giving us stories that really capture what it means to be a Black woman in all the different seasons of life.
We get to see Black women as bosses, navigating friendships, love, heartbreak, and real life relationships, while also making space for conversations around mental health, healing, and self growth topics TV has been scared to touch for a long time. It feels honest. It feels familiar. And most importantly, it feels necessary.

Coming into its 10th season, there’s been a change that caught most fans (including myself) completely off guard. And, honestly? We’re lowkey mourning. The departure of series regulars Novi Brown (Sabrina Hollins) and Ebony Obsidian (Karen Mott) hit a little harder than expected. We all found out when the new season artwork dropped, featuring two new faces, and everybody immediately said, “Harpo… who these women?” in our best Squeak voice 😂.
Now, if you’ve been keeping up with the sister circle, then you know Karen has moved on to settle into motherhood, and Sabrina was left fighting for her life after a horrible car accident. But still… did the sister circle have to change THIS drastically? And who exactly is gonna cuddle us through this transition while we kick and scream for some sense of normalcy? Because Tyler… "you're killing us, Smalls!"
But here’s where I had to check myself. Spiritually speaking, the number 10 represents completion, divine order, new beginnings, and unlimited potential. So instead of looking at this shift from a negative place, I’m choosing to embrace our new sistas. Enter Jordan Coleman, who plays Cheyenne Barnes, and Tunde Oyeneyin, who steps in as Madison Truitt. Will the dynamic take some getting used to? Absolutely. But change is inevitable, and new beginnings open the door for new friendships, new love, and new stories waiting to be told.
Now let’s not forget, Season 9 left us with questions we need answered immediately. Does Sabrina survive the car crash? Because let’s be real, that is a loss we are NOT ready for. And why, after 30 plus years, did Zac’s daddy suddenly decide to pop back into his life? Sir… why now?!
The drama officially unfolds tonight at 9pm est with the premiere of Sistas Season 10 on BET. So the real question is are you ready to embrace the newness of the sister circle? Or are you firmly standing on Team No New Friends? 👀🍿
