Three ways to "Give" for National Philanthropy Day

Today, November 15, is National Philanthropy Day; an opportunity to bring awareness to the act of giving, especially towards non-profit organizations. CEO of FlightsInStilettos, Author Kinyatta E. Gray is charging her audience to consider giving; a definition left up to your interpretation.

When we think of Philanthropy, the first thought that comes to mind is money... monetary support. While all nonprofits rely on donations, donor and trustee support; there are many other ways to "give" and "gift" outside of digging into your pockets and bank accounts and their affects may be even more beneficial.

Today, Gray partners with Beautiful I AM, a "women's organization committed to empower and inspire women and young ladies to achieve dreams, overcome challenges and grow professionally through structured programming." At 3 p.m., Gray will host a virtual, Zoom session as part of the Beautiful Me Mentoring Program offered online due to social distancing.

Gray plans to chat with young, female mentees of the program about her catalog as an author in the hope of aspiring and empowering the girls to write their own lives. The session, "So, You Want To Be An Author w/ Kinyatta E. Gray" is not only a career day (in a sense), but a building session for the girls (ages 11 to 18). With the hope of potentially lighting a spark underneath the girls to visualize a life of authorship, but also a way of self-expression and self-care, Gray plans to provide a copy of her eBook "So, You Want To Be An Author: A Step By Step Guide For Aspiring Authors" along with step-by-step instructions for the girls to learn, but also achieve the goal of publishing their own body of work.

The organization says, "Our Beautiful Me Mentoring Program can be beneficial for young ladies who have potential and skills but have not discovered them yet or don’t know how to hone them, develop them and use them effectively."

Gray also donated three gift bags, packed with merchandise from her brand FlightsInStilettos, as she's determined to advance the imagery of lives of travel in an effort to inspire young girls, especially girls of color. Each received her Traveling Tiaras Travel Backbacks and Traveling Tiaras Travel Blankets.

Upon meeting the girls for the initial Traveling Tiaras donation drop off (yesterday), Gray said, "My heart melted instantly." She continued, "I was instantly greeted with a warm hello from the leadership of Beautiful I Am, and a heartfelt hug from their mentees. This was everything I needed to experience in order to know that I made the right choice to donate both time and gifts to this deserving organization in the DMV. Make a donation to this organization and change a young girl's life forever."

In an instagram post, Gray requested her followers give even a bit of their time to support organizations such as these. Both her time and resources will be enjoyed by the recipients; that's priceless. Those who have the means should also know their donation goes a long way. Gray states, "We know that organizations like these thrive off the support of generous donors like you and we also know that these programs make a difference in our communities."
