Beauty, Business, and Brunch: My Experience in a Room Built for Us

Walking into Beauty, Business, and Brunch, I immediately felt the difference. This was not just another event where people show up, exchange a few words, and leave with business cards they may never look at again. This felt intentional. It felt like a space that was created with us in mind.

The event, founded by Kachay Dorsey, came from a real need. She recognized that in the POC beauty industry, information is not always shared openly. Opportunities, strategies, and resources often stay within closed circles, and as a result, many talented women are left trying to figure it out on their own. Instead of accepting that, she created something to change it.
From my experience, that mission was clear in every part of the event. The conversations were honest and necessary. Women were not holding back information or trying to outshine one another. They were pouring into each other, sharing what they knew, and being real about both their wins and their challenges. That alone made the space feel powerful.
What stood out to me the most was the sense of community. You could feel that this was bigger than networking. It was about building something together. As someone who values real connection and storytelling, I appreciated how open and engaged everyone was. It reminded me that success does not have to be isolating. It can be shared.
There was also a level of empowerment that felt practical, not just motivational. I left with actual insight. Conversations around building a brand, navigating business, and positioning yourself in the beauty industry were not surface level. They were the kinds of conversations that shift how you move when you walk back into your own work.
This event also made me reflect on how important it is to be in rooms that align with where you are going. Being surrounded by women who are building, evolving, and pushing forward creates a different kind of energy. It pushes you to think bigger and move with more intention.

Beauty, Business, and Brunch is filling a gap that has existed for far too long. It is creating a space where knowledge is shared, community is prioritized, and women of color are reminded that they belong in every room they step into.
Leaving that event, I did not just feel inspired. I felt aligned. And more than anything, I felt reminded that when we share what we know and support each other, we all move forward together.
