We are back at it with Episode 3 of The Summer Cookout!
Welcome back =) For my newbies, The Summer Cookout is our online cooking series that highlights the best in summer produce, and I turn that produce into a meal and a drink!
As you can see, we are already at episode 3. (Wild, right?) We started off the summer season with a refreshing watermelon and queso de freír salad (that I may or may not still have dreams about) and we paired it with a watermelon agua fresca, and last week, we served up mahi-mahi tacos with corn and poblano salsa were on the menu, alongside a sweet corn Oaxaca old fashioned, made with a Black-owned mezcal brand.
Have you seen those episodes yet? No?
Make sure, then, that you catch both of them on our Instagram page, or you can watch the full episodes on our YouTube channel!
This week, we are talking about peaches, which is arguably one of my favorite fruits. Peaches get a lot of love, of course, in Southern desserts in particular - but I wanted to do something bold and a little unexpected.
Grilled chicken wings with a peach scallion glaze felt like just the thing to do.
They're sweet, savory, a little sticky, and the perfect addition to enjoy the final hurrahs of summer. As for the drink, I wanted to keep it bold, but bright. I love an old fashioned, of course, and I wanted to do a play on that -- but in a mocktail style. Pairing grilled peaches, a smoky black tea, and burnt honey to give it a rich caramelly nutty flavor? That's a mocktail that give depth without the alcohol.
